3-Day Serengeti Safari from Zanzibar

3 days / 2 nights 2 nights in the park Return fly-in From $1,925/adult

Tour overview

The middle day is what you are paying for

The 3-Day Serengeti Safari is the package most guests end up on, and the deciding factor is the full, unbroken middle day in the park.

Across two nights you wake up in the wilderness with no flight at either end of day two, which means you can leave at first light, follow whatever your guide finds, and stay out into the evening without watching the clock. The itinerary is built around the Seronera valley in the central Serengeti, which holds resident lion, leopard, elephant and giraffe year-round rather than herds that may be several hours away.

Days one and three run the same smooth logistics as the shorter fly-in trips. Day two is the difference. Landing at 10:00 on day one and boarding at about 09:45 on day three gives just under 48 hours in the park across two park-fee periods — roughly a day and a half of active game viewing.

A full day plus three half-day game drives, with game viewing on both airstrip transfers

Trip highlights

What makes this safari

A whole day with no flight in it

Day two has no arrival or departure attached to it. That is the single biggest difference between this trip and the 2-day.

Resident game, not a chase

The Seronera valley holds lion, leopard, elephant and giraffe all year, so the itinerary does not depend on where the herds happen to be.

Your guide sets the route

Decided each morning on recent sightings rather than a fixed circuit driven regardless of what the game is doing.

Just under 48 hours in the park

Two full park-fee periods, which is what the price is built on. Roughly a day and a half of active game viewing.

Day by day

Your safari, day by day

  1. Day 1

Zanzibar to Seronera & afternoon game drive

A morning hotel pickup in Zanzibar connects you with the scheduled 07:00 Flightlink departure, touching down at Seronera Airstrip at 10:00. Your private resident guide meets you on arrival and game viewing starts immediately, across prime resident-game country on the way to camp.

After checking in and lunch, you head out for an extensive afternoon game drive that tracks wildlife across the plains until last light.

Meals: Lunch, dinner · Overnight: Serengeti House of Nature (mid-range) or Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (luxury)

  2. Day 2

Full day in the Seronera valley

Day two is entirely yours. Most guests take an early breakfast at first light and run it as one continuous day with a packed lunch; you can equally come back through the midday heat and head out again at three.

Your guide decides the route each morning based on where the game has actually been sitting that week. That judgement is why we use resident Serengeti guides rather than sending a driver up from town.

Meals: All meals · Overnight: Same property as night one

  3. Day 3

Dawn game drive & return to Zanzibar

A dawn game drive catches the predators while they are still active — often the best sightings of the trip. Breakfast and check out, then a final game viewing session on the drive to Seronera Airstrip for the 10:00 flight to Zanzibar, with a transfer waiting to take you back to your hotel.

    Meals: Breakfast

What the tiers mean. Mid-range in the Serengeti is a permanent lodge or a semi-permanent tented camp: en-suite bathroom, hot water, a real bed, full board, usually solar power with limited hours. It does not mean a pool or air conditioning.

Luxury is not one thing on this site. Properties are assigned by region, not by season — a permanent lodge in the central Serengeti, a tented camp in the north. Both are excellent and both cost the same. They are not the same kind of stay, so we label them by region rather than let you assume.
