About Us
A Tanzanian company, licensed in Arusha, running private fly-in safaris to the Serengeti from Zanzibar.
Our story
Most people never make it inland
Every year an enormous number of visitors come to Zanzibar, spend a week on the coast, and fly home without seeing the Serengeti — not because they didn't want to, but because the logistics looked like they would swallow the whole holiday.
They wouldn't. The Serengeti is a morning flight away. You leave your hotel after breakfast, land on an airstrip inside the park before eleven, and spend the next two or three days on the plains with a vehicle and a guide that belong to you alone. Then you fly back to the coast and pick your beach holiday up where you left it.
We are SUNTRIP TANZANIA SAFARIS COMPANY LIMITED, licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism under Tourism Class A, licence 035195, and based in Arusha. We run the northern circuit ourselves rather than handing you to a third party once you have paid.
Class ALicensed tour operator
What we are careful about is the gap between what a safari is sold as and what it actually is. A one-day fly-in gives you about four hours on the ground. Three nights buys you more chances at a river crossing, not a guarantee of one. A child aged five to fifteen costs almost what an adult does on a fly-in trip, because the airfare and the jeep seat don't halve. We would rather say all of that on a web page than explain it to you at an airstrip.
What we stand for
How we work
Four things we hold to on every departure, whether it is two passengers or seven.
Say the true thing
If a shorter trip is poor value, we say so before you pay. If nobody can promise a river crossing on your dates, we say that too. It costs us some bookings and keeps the rest.
Always private
Your own vehicle and guide on every safari we sell. No seat-in-vehicle departures, no strangers in the row behind you, no waiting on another party's schedule.
One price, all in
Flights, park and concession fees, camp, meals, vehicle and guide in a single quote. The fees other operators leave out are the ones that make a cheap quote look cheap.
Local, and licensed
A Tanzanian company with resident guides who work these parks, not drivers sent up from town for the season.
Why choose us
What makes us different
The flight is part of the safari, not an add-on
Both sectors are in the price and booked by us. You are not left to arrange the return leg yourself at the end of a trip.
Every fee is inside the quote
Park entry, concession and conservation fees, and the Ngorongoro crater service fee where an itinerary includes a descent. That last one is the most commonly under-quoted line on this kind of trip.
A published delay policy, in writing
If weather or the airline holds you overnight in the Serengeti, we cover your first extra night in full — camp, meals, park fees, vehicle and guide. If the delay is ours, we cover everything that follows. Read the policy.
A licence you can check
Tourism Class A, licence 035195, issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Tourism Division. The number is on every page of this site because a number you can verify is worth more than a badge you cannot.
FAQ
Before you book
How do I get from Zanzibar to the Serengeti?
By air. Scheduled flights leave Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar at 07:00 and land at Seronera airstrip in the central Serengeti at 10:00. Your guide meets you at the airstrip and game viewing starts on the drive to camp. By road the same journey takes well over a day.
How long does the flight take?
Three hours, Zanzibar to Seronera. Safari aircraft call at bush airstrips according to bookings, so exact times are firmed up about 24 hours before you travel and we pass them on as soon as we have them.
When is the best time to go?
The central Serengeti holds resident lion, leopard, elephant and giraffe all year, so there is no bad month. For the Mara River crossings, travel between July and October. For the calving season on the southern plains, December to March.
The migration itself is continuous. What is seasonal is the crossings.
Can I do the Serengeti as a day trip from Zanzibar?
You can, but we would rather you did not. A one-day fly-in gives about four hours on the ground, of which roughly three is actual game viewing, and the park fee is charged per 24 hours regardless of how long you stay. The value per dollar is poor.
If you can free up a single night, the two-day trip adds an afternoon, a night and a morning for a fraction more.
What is included in the price?
Return flights between Zanzibar and the Serengeti, all airport and airstrip transfers, full board accommodation at the named camp or lodge, a private 4x4 with a pop-up roof and a resident guide exclusive to your party, all park entry and concession fees, drinking water in the vehicle, lunch on every full day, and all government taxes.
Not included: international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, alcoholic and soft drinks, and optional extras such as a balloon safari.
Will I be sharing the vehicle with strangers?
Never. Every safari on this site is a private departure — your own vehicle, your own guide, nobody else in the row behind you. There are no seat-in-vehicle options.
